SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — A state-run railway research body has developed new technology that can reduce both the noise and fine dust generated around railroad and subway tracks.
The Korea Railroad Research Institute said Monday that it had developed a ‘noise reduction-type fanless dust collector.’
With a minimal thickness, the fanless dust collector is modularized to ensure easy installation along railroad or subway tracks.
Without the need for separate maintenance devices such as fans, motors and dust collecting filters, the dust collectors can be washed with water, thereby contributing to greatly reducing maintenance costs.
The dust collectors have a dust reduction rate of more than 70 percent within chambers on the basis of dust particles smaller than 0.3 micrometers in diameter, with their sound absorption rate estimated at more than 0.75.
Their noise reduction performance has been officially certified.
As a result of on-site testing conducted for a month on Seoul Subway Line No. 5, the dust collectors proved to offer a 90 percent reduction of PM 2.5 and PM 10 dust particles on average.
PM 2.5 and PM 10 refer to particulate matters smaller than 2.5 micrometers and 10 micrometers in diameter, respectively.
