The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) plans to use coal combustion waste in the form of flying ash and bottom ash (Faba) as the foundation layer for national roads.Currently, the Ministry of PUPR through the Central Kalimantan National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) together with PT PLN (Persero) are conducting trials on the Pulang Pisau Steam Power Plant (PLTU) to make the road foundation layer.Quoting Antara, Friday (10/6), Manager of PLN UPDK Palangkaraya Heni Setyo Handoko said the trial implementation was part of a pilot project of cooperation between PLN and the Ministry of PUPR for the preparation of the Draft Indonesian National Standard (RSNI) for PLTU Pulang Pisau. There are two utilization products that were tested this time.First, the foundation layer with a composition of 50 percent fly ash, 50 percent bottom ash mixed with 7 percent cement from the total mixing.Second, heap of choice with a composition of 70 percent fly ash and 30 percent bottom ash.If the test results at the Pulang Pisau PLTU location are successful, the trial will be continued on the Central Kalimantan national road project which is the reference for formulating SNI."Hopefully the results will be good and soon it can be implemented on public roads," said Handoko.Previously, the Ministry of PUPR had submitted a request for an official SNI approval to the National Standardization Agency (BSN) regarding the use of Faba for the infrastructure development.Fly ash is one of the residues produced in coal combustion in the form of fine particles captured by an air pollution control device called ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator).Meanwhile, bottom ash is the residue from burning coal in the furnace which is routinely removed during the process at the PLTU.
