WILLMAR — A dust collector fire was discovered and extinguished Thursday morning at a building on the West Central Steel campus in west Willmar.
Smoke was reported to be coming from a vent on the south side of the west building, according to a news release from Willmar Fire Chief Frank Hanson.
When Willmar Fire Department units responded to the scene at approximately 11:42 a.m. Thursday, firefighters removed the dust collector filters, which were on fire.
It was later determined an employee had observed the smoke coming from the building vent. He returned to the building and activated the fire extinguishment system on the dust collector.
Firefighters remained at the scene until about 1 p.m. Thursday.
The only damage at the scene was to the filters of the dust collector. There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Willmar Fire Department was assisted by CentraCare Emergency Medical Services-Willmar; Blomkest, Kandiyohi and Spicer fire departments; and the Willmar Police Department.
