All critical violations must be corrected within 72 hours (or as otherwise stated on the report). All noncritical violations must be corrected by the next regular inspection (or as otherwise stated on the report). Recent city of Independence inspections include: Los Compas Mexican Restaurant: 18011 E. U.S. 24, inspected Aug. 23. • • Sanitized water not available at cook line. • Manager noted working with nose piercing. Ticket will be issued on next offense. Food service workers may not wear jewelry on their arms and hands. Wearing of facial jewelry or jewelry designed to be worn in a pierced tongue is strictly prohibited. • Food was not stored properly in cooler. Onions found on floor of walk-in cooler. Onions found stored in employees restroom. • Food was not stored properly in dry food storage area. Cases of soda were on the floor. All food must be stored at least 6 inches above the floor to prevent contamination from the floor or splash from floor cleaning. • The premises was noted not being maintained free of insects, rodents and other pests. Gnats found in employee restroom. • Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. Employee restroom found dirty. Physical facilities shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean. Rosewood Health and Rehab Center: 1515 W. White Oak, inspected Aug. 23. • Inadequate cold/hold storage equipment. Reach-in cooler in fourth-floor pantry is out of order and must be repaired. • Prep sink found not functioning. Drain clogged. • Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary: (1) a heavy mold-like substance found on wall and stainless at entrance to dish machine; (2) Kickplate missing from the walk-in cooler must be replaced. • Dishwasher noted not being kept clean. • All employees must obtain a valid food handler card and provide a copy to the establishment by Sept. 9. • Golden Corral: 19120 E. Valley View Pkwy., inspected Aug. 14. • Front and interior of fryers noted not free of dust, dirt, food residue and other debris. All non-food contact and food contact surfaces must be kept clean and sanitized to prevent a build-up of debris and harborage of bacteria. • Waitress noted working with inappropriate nose piercing. Piercing was removed. Ticket may be issued on next occurrence. Food service workers may not wear jewelry on their arms and hands. Wearing of facial jewelry or jewelry designed to be work in a pierced tongue is strictly prohibited. • Utensils not properly stored between use. Spoons found in containers with the lip contact surface exposed. All in-use utensils must be stored in the food with the handle out, in a running water dipper well, or clean and dry. Culver’s: 4220 S. Little Blue Pkwy., inspected Aug. 29. • Eight managers found without an Independence food manager card. All must either transfer a Servsafe certificate or make an appointment to take the managers’ test by Sept. 12. • Fifteen employees must obtain a valid food handler card and provide a copy to the restaurant by Sept. 12. Failure to do so may result in removal from the schedule. • Drive-thru cashier noted working with nose piercing. A ticket will be issued on next violation. Wearing of facial jewelry or jewelry designed to be worn in a pierced tongue is strictly prohibited. This does not apply to jewelry in pierced ears. • The following areas were noted not free of dust, dirt, food residue and other debris: (1) area behind bun toaster; (2) Counter around topping pumps next to soft-serve machine; (3) Flat area around soda nozzles in drive-thru; (4) Front of grill. • Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary: (1) Floor in area of back door; (2) Floor of walk-in freezer; (3) Floor beneath shelving next to walkin cooler. • Hand sink was used for purpose other than hand washing. Name tags found in/on hand sink across from freezer. Twin Peaks: 19821 E. Jackson Dr., inspected Aug. 24. • Two managers must transfer their Servsafe certificates to Independence food manager cards and 39 employees must obtain a valid food handler card and provide a copy to the restaurant by Sept. 7 or they will be removed from the schedule. • Multiple employees observed with nose piercings. Tickets will be issued to employees and managers on duty with the next offense. Food service workers may not wear facial jewelry or jewelry designed to be worn in a pierced tongue is strictly prohibited. This does not apply to jewelry in pierced ears. Salvatore’s: 12801 E. U.S. 40, inspected Aug. 30. • Utensils not properly stored between use. Silverware found in wait station with the lip contact/food contact area presented instead of the handle. All in-use utensils must be stored either in the food with the handle out, in a running water dipper well, or clean and dry. • Hand sink was used for purpose other than hand washing. Single-use containers found in the basin of the hand sink in the dry storage area. A handwashing sink may not be used for purposes other than hand washing. • Soda nozzles and flat area they attach to noted not free of dust, dirt, food residue and other debris. • Outside openings shall be protected against entry of insects and rodents. The door sweep was missing from the screen door. • Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. Red sauce found splashed on cooler walls.
